Quick answer
Prestige mainly raises a set of published overseas limits. The biggest differences are medical expenses, cancellation and curtailment, travel and luggage delay, and loss or damage of luggage. Some benefits have the same limit under both plans, and both plans remain subject to the same policy triggers, exclusions and evidence rules.
Use the limit that fits the cost you could realistically face. Then check the sublimits and the premium shown in your quote. If Travel XPert is on your shortlist, use your actual trip costs and traveller details to compare Classic and Prestige. “Prestige” is not a guarantee that every claim pays more.
The published overseas limits side by side
The current Schedule of Benefits gives these maximums for overseas Asia and Worldwide cover:
| Benefit | Classic | Prestige |
|---|---|---|
| Death or permanent disablement due to accident | Up to RM500,000 | Up to RM750,000 |
| Medical expenses | Up to RM350,000 | Up to RM550,000 |
| Follow-up treatment | Up to RM50,000 | Up to RM75,000 |
| Hospital income | RM350 a day, up to RM15,000 | RM350 a day, up to RM25,000 |
| Emergency evacuation, repatriation and mortal-remains repatriation | Up to RM10,000,000 each line, subject to aggregation | Up to RM10,000,000 each line, subject to aggregation |
| Compassionate visit | Up to RM7,500 | Up to RM10,000 |
| Child care | Up to RM7,500 | Up to RM10,000 |
| Despatch of medicine | Up to RM5,000 | Up to RM7,500 |
| Deposit or trip cancellation | Up to RM25,000 | Up to RM35,000 |
| Travel curtailment | Up to RM25,000 | Up to RM35,000 |
| Luggage delay | RM200 per five hours, up to RM3,000 | RM300 per five hours, up to RM4,500 |
| Travel delay | RM300 per five hours, up to RM3,000 | RM300 per five hours, up to RM4,500 |
| Missed departure | Up to RM2,000 | Up to RM3,000 |
| Missed travel connection | Lump sum RM300 | Lump sum RM1,000 |
| Travel overbooked | Lump sum RM300 | Lump sum RM600 |
| Loss or damage of personal luggage or effects | Up to RM5,000 | Up to RM7,500 |
| Theft of a passport or visa abroad | Up to RM5,000 | Up to RM5,000 |
Every figure in the table is a plan maximum or stated benefit amount. It is not a prediction of the amount payable for your event.
Under the current brochure, travellers aged 71 to 85 are eligible only for overseas Classic. Leisure sports are unavailable to that age group, so the plan comparison still needs an age and activity check.
Luggage limits have their own ceiling
The luggage total is not the only number to check. For overseas cover, the policy sets an aggregate smart-device limit of RM1,000 for Classic and RM1,500 for Prestige. The maximum per single article, pair or set for any other item is RM500 for Classic and RM750 for Prestige.
That matters if your suitcase contains a phone, tablet, laptop or other smart device. A RM7,500 Prestige luggage limit does not mean one expensive laptop can be reimbursed up to RM7,500. The policy also applies depreciation, reporting rules and evidence requirements.
The companion article on delayed bags and stolen passports explains what to do at the airport and which reports to keep.
Many important benefits stay on the same limit
The overseas medical limit changes from RM350,000 to RM550,000. Emergency medical evacuation, emergency medical repatriation and mortal-remains repatriation are each shown at up to RM10,000,000 under both plans, subject to the policy's aggregate rule.
The travel-document benefit for theft of a passport or visa abroad is up to RM5,000 under both plans. The overseas cashless hospital facility is also governed by the same threshold: for a covered overseas hospital admission, the hospital bill from the same cause must exceed RM20,000 and all items must be covered within the medical limit. Items outside the cover remain payable by you.
Higher Prestige limits do not remove the need to call the authorised representative or meet the wording. A bigger number does not turn an excluded treatment into a covered one.
What both plans still share
Both plans are subject to the policy's definitions, exclusions, claim timing and proof requirements. Examples include:
- pre-existing conditions are excluded for the personal accident, medical and emergency-assistance sections;
- professional sports and hazardous activities fall outside the stated leisure-sports cover;
- the high-altitude mountaineering benefit is optional and has its own age and activity conditions;
- a claim needs the relevant medical, carrier, police or authority documents; and
- the quote and policy schedule control the selected geographical area and traveller details.
The policy says all claims must be given in writing within 30 days after you return home. The PDS also says the premium must be paid and received before cover starts.
Use the trip, not the label, to decide
Classic can be enough for a short trip with lower non-refundable costs and a risk profile that fits the published limits. Prestige may be worth comparing when the trip has higher prepaid costs, a larger family group, expensive equipment or a medical exposure where the higher limit matters.
That is a comparison point, not a suitability conclusion. Check the destination, age, trip length, activities, existing cover and money you could pay yourself. Ask for the quoted premium for the exact traveller list.
