Quick answer
Family travel quotes can change because age, child status, plan availability, trip length, activities and group conditions are assessed together. Under the current Allianz Travel XPert brochure, travellers aged 71 to 85 are eligible only for the overseas Classic plan. Leisure sports are unavailable for that age group, and the optional high-altitude benefit is limited to ages 18 to 60.
Before asking for a price, list each traveller's age, destination, trip dates, activities and whether anyone has a relevant medical history. If Travel XPert is on your shortlist, enter each traveller's details in the quote flow so the available option reflects the whole group. Then read the quote and policy wording instead of assuming a family discount applies to everyone.
Check 1: each traveller's age
The PDS sets the current age groups as adult 18 to 70, child 30 days to 17, and senior citizen 71 to 85. A baby's age matters. So does the age of a parent or grandparent.
The brochure says a person aged 71 to 85 is eligible only for the overseas Classic plan. That means a family cannot simply select Prestige for every traveller and assume the senior traveller joins the same plan.
Leisure Sports Activities are unavailable to ages 71 to 85. The high-altitude mountaineering optional benefit is available only to ages 18 to 60. These are plan and activity conditions, not just pricing details.
Check 2: the trip duration and direction
For a non-annual overseas return trip, the maximum is up to 200 consecutive days. A one-way overseas trip and each annual overseas trip can run up to 90 consecutive days. Domestic trips are limited to 31 consecutive days under annual and non-annual policies.
If your family is travelling for an extended period, check the duration for every traveller and the journey type. A senior restriction or annual per-trip limit can change the available choice.
Check 3: group and child discount conditions
The brochure says a 5% premium discount applies when five or more travellers are covered under one policy. It also says the discount does not apply to individuals aged 71 to 85.
Children aged 30 days to 17 years may receive an additional 20% child discount, subject to the current terms. The child discount is described as available regardless of group size. Do not treat the sample family table in a brochure as your personal quote.
The brochure also notes that the International and Domestic Medical Assistance and Evacuation Programme is charged separately at RM1.62 per person and that service tax may apply to domestic or combined plans. Confirm the current charges in the quote.
Check 4: activities and safety rules
Leisure sports are shown as included, but the policy excludes hazardous activities and requires reasonable care and compliance with safety requirements. Examples of excluded or restricted activities include mountaineering above 3,500 metres unless the optional benefit is purchased, off-piste skiing or snowboarding, parkour, motor racing, spelunking, and grade 5 or above white or black-water rafting.
The high-altitude optional benefit applies above 3,500 metres and up to 5,500 metres, subject to the wording, a certified local guide, a maximum 31-day activity period, and the 18-to-60 age range. It is not a general “all sports” add-on.
Write the actual activity and altitude in your trip notes. “Going hiking” is not enough if the route involves a restricted altitude or technical activity.
Check 5: medical history, destination and claim evidence
The PDS and policy wording exclude pre-existing conditions for personal accident, medical-related and emergency-assistance benefits. The policy definition looks at treatment, medication, advice, diagnosis, consultation or prescribed drugs during the 12 months before the trip.
List the destination and check whether the trip is domestic, Asia or Worldwide. The policy defines the geographical areas and excludes specified countries and countries under sanctions or at war.
Keep the booking, boarding documents, medical records and any authority or carrier reports. Written claim notice is required within 30 days after returning home. Family travel creates more documents, not fewer.
A simple family quote checklist
Put these details on one page:
- every traveller's name, age group and citizenship or residence status;
- destination, one-way or return route, and dates;
- domestic, Asia or Worldwide area;
- activities, altitude and sports;
- child and senior discount assumptions; and
- medical questions and documents you may need.
Use the page when checking the quote. It is easy to miss one older traveller or one restricted activity when the booking has many people.
Ready to price cover for everyone travelling? Start your quote
Once the five checks are written down, start with Henry's Allianz Travel XPert quote link and enter each traveller's age, destination, dates and activities. The quote shows the available option for the group details entered, so review it against the checks above before payment. Availability, premium, discounts, exclusions and claims follow the quote and policy wording.
The companion article on single-trip versus annual cover explains the per-trip duration limit. The Classic versus Prestige article shows which benefit limits change.
