Quick answer
Under the current Allianz Travel XPert wording, the cashless hospital admission and discharge facility is for an overseas hospitalisation claim when the covered hospital bill from the same cause exceeds RM20,000 per admission. The items must be covered within the plan's medical limit, and the facility must be activated through the authorised representative.
A bill below RM20,000 is handled on a reimbursement basis. Items the policy does not cover remain your responsibility. If Travel XPert is on your shortlist, use your trip and medical details in the quote flow to see the available option and premium, then check the cashless conditions before deciding. Cashless does not mean every overseas treatment is paid without checks.
The RM20,000 condition is a threshold, not a free pass
The policy says Allianz will facilitate cashless admission and discharge when:
- you require hospitalisation because of an accident or illness;
- the hospital bill from the same cause exceeds RM20,000;
- all items in the bill are covered under the medical-expenses benefit up to the plan limit; and
- the facility is used for an overseas journey or trip.
The policy wording says the bill must exceed RM20,000. The brochure's activation panel says “RM20,000 and above”. Because the policy wording controls, do not assume that a bill exactly at RM20,000 qualifies; confirm the boundary with Allianz or its authorised representative.
If the hospitalisation claim is below RM20,000, the policy says it will be handled on a reimbursement basis. That means you may need to pay first and submit the required proof.
The word “covered” does real work here. A hospital may include items that fall outside the policy, a sublimit or an exclusion. Those items must be paid by you even if the total bill is above RM20,000.
Classic and Prestige have different medical limits
The Schedule of Benefits lists overseas medical expenses of up to RM350,000 for Classic and up to RM550,000 for Prestige. The cashless threshold does not change those limits, and the limit is not a promise that Allianz will pay the full bill.
The emergency evacuation and repatriation benefits have their own terms. The policy also says the maximum for evacuation, repatriation and mortal-remains repatriation is aggregated against the schedule limit. Treat the medical limit, the assistance limit and the cashless facility as separate questions.
Domestic illness cover is different
The policy schedule shows a domestic medical-expenses limit, but the wording says domestic medical expenses caused by illness are not covered under that benefit. The overseas medical benefit covers accident and illness during the overseas journey, subject to the terms.
This distinction matters if you buy a plan for a trip within Malaysia and assume the overseas illness wording carries across. It does not. Read the domestic conditions for the plan selected.
Pre-existing conditions need an early check
The PDS and policy wording exclude pre-existing conditions for the personal accident, medical-related and emergency-assistance sections. The policy defines a pre-existing condition as one for which you sought or received treatment, medication, advice or diagnosis, consultation or prescribed drugs in the 12 months before the journey starts.
That definition is wider than “I was admitted to hospital recently”. A regular prescription or a medical consultation may be relevant. If you have a condition or recent treatment, ask the insurer or authorised agent how the wording applies before you rely on the cover.
What to do if a hospital admission happens
Seek medical attention. Keep the hospital's admission details and tell the authorised representative through the 24-hour emergency hotline, +603 7628 3617, if you need the cashless facility activated.
Have your name, NRIC or passport number, hospital details, policy information and travel documents ready. The brochure describes a verification process before a Guarantee Letter is issued. You may still have to pay non-covered expenses before discharge.
For a reimbursement claim, keep the medical report, original bills and receipts. The policy also requires written notice of claims within 30 days after you return home, with proof of loss and other documents as required.
